I love being back in the studio! It’s been very therapeutic to be able to express my feelings and talk about who I really am, through my music. It also helps that I’ve been lucky enough to work with such talented people on the record so far!
With my new album, I’m hoping to provide inspiration for girls everywhere who are going through the same issues I’ve faced. I think this will come through in a lot of the material. My first single is really special to me— to me it symbolizes my journey from the person I was to the happy healthy person I am today, and the fact that people are able to rise above anything, despite the odds.
I’m so excited to share all of this with you guys! The experience has been amazing so far and I’m really enjoying the whole process. There are definitely a lot of emotions that go into making an album. I feel blessed, inspired, and nervous with anticipation, but mostly, I feel excited about the future, and about sharing this new record with my fans!
Stay Strong!
Love,

‘For the past 10 years, I’ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food,’ Disney star confides in new ABC News interview.
Demi Lovato surprised everyone when she quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers last fall to seek treatment for “emotional and physical issues.” She recently opened up about those personal issues, which back then caused much speculation about exactly what ailed her, in a new interview with ABC News. Lovato also confirmed that she will no longer be starring in her TV show, “Sonny With a Chance.”
“I’ve spoken openly about being bullied throughout the past few years, but one thing that I’ve never been able to feel comfortable talking about was the effects that it had on my life afterwards,” she said. “I literally didn’t know why they were being so mean to me. And when I would ask them why, they would just say, ‘Well, you’re fat.’
“I developed an eating disorder, and that’s kind of what I’ve been dealing with ever since. I was compulsively overeating when I was 8 years old,” she continued. “So, I guess, for the past 10 years, I’ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food.”
Her eating disorder also gave way to self-mutilation. In the interview, which airs on “Good Morning America” and “20/20″ on Friday, the Disney star says she began cutting herself at age 11. “It was a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my own body,” she told Robin Roberts. “I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn’t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.”
The emotional ups and downs came to a head last summer while on tour with the Jonas Brothers. “I was performing concerts on an empty stomach,” she said. “I was losing my voice from purging. I was self-medicating. I was not taking medication for depression, and I literally was so emotionally whacked out that I took it out on someone that meant a lot to me.”
She is referring to an incident in which Lovato reportedly got into a physical altercation with one of the dancers on the tour. An intervention was staged following that incident, and she entered treatment. “I take 100 percent, full responsibility. I feel horrible. [She] was my friend,” she said. “They sat me down and said, ‘You can’t live like this.’ ” She recalled that once she entered the facility, “For the first time in my life, I started to feel.”
Her sister and her fans acted as her strength as she dealt with the issues she had kept quiet for a decade. “A picture of my little sister [Madison], on my little bulletin board, was one of the main things that kept me going,” she said. “I just kept thinking, ‘OK, set this example for your little sister,’ ” she explained. “The real reason why I’m sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn’t have to be this way.”
The same day the preview for the ABC News interview hit the Web, it was announced that Lovato would be leaving her Disney show, “Sonny With a Chance.” “It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music,” Lovato told People.com. “It’s kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended, but there couldn’t be a better time for me to move on.”
“I don’t think going back to ‘Sonny’ would be healthy for my recovery,” she added. “Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.”
A rep for the show confirms her decision and the network is supporting Lovato’s future endeavors, which include recording for Disney’s record label. “We respect Demi’s decision to focus full-time on her music and not immediately return to her acting career,” a rep explained. “She is a talented young woman and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity.”

Demi opens up on her battles with food, cutting, drugs and alcohol in her new interview — and how she overcame her demons!
Demi Lovato looks healthier and happier than ever after her stint in a Chicago treatment facility, and is know finally revealing the personal battles with her weight, cutting, drugs and alcohol that sent her there. Demi tells People, “When I was about 15, I was only eating two meals a week, but I wasn’t losing any more weight because my body adjusted to that. So I tried new things: laxatives, fasts — nothing was working. I decided maybe I should start throwing up. At my worst, I was doing it five times a day. I threw up so hard and so much, it was just blood in the toilet.”
Among Demi’s other brave admissions:
- On her now infamous fight with dancer Alex Welch: “I was manic. I was hurt. I just exploded. Everything built up to this point, and I took it out on someone who was my friend.”
- On if it was her decision to seek treatment: “Yes and no. I flew back to the U.S. and I thought we were going to L.A. My parents were like, ‘No, you’re going to Dallas. We have the owner of a treatment center waiting to talk to you.’”
- On what motivated her weight loss: “The spotlight didn’t cause this. It just contributed a little bit. I looked at blogs: I saw nasty comments.”
- On how she would skip meals: “On lunch breaks on Sonny with a Chance, instead of eating, I would take naps or I’d say, ‘I’d gotta get my nails done!’ I’d also go out with my friends more than normal.”
- On drugs and alcohol: “I’d be lying if I said I never touched anything. Fortunately it never got to a place where I had to be in treatment for it.”
- On depression: “I’ve battled depression from a young age. I never found out until I went into treatment that I am bipolar.”
- On reuniting with old friends: “Selena [Gomez] and I reconnected the first week. We hadn’t spoken in a long time. I take the blame; I feel like it was because of the way I’d been acting. She called me and she was the one crying.”
- On her current eating habits: “My goal for every day is to eat three meals, and that’s challenging enough.”
- On returning to Sonny with a Chance: “I don’t know if I could handle being in front of a camera with my body right now.”
- On staying strong: ”It’s a struggle I’ll probably have to deal with for the rest of my life. But I have so much life to live; I don’t want to waste it.

Demi Lovato is one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars, but despite having so much fame and fortune at only 18, she told RadarOnline.com that she is confident she’ll avoid the pitfalls fellow starlet Lindsay Lohan has gone through.
“I think it’s important to just surround yourself with good people and to make sure you have the support system in your family,” she told RadarOnline.com exclusively on Tuesday as she announced the 2010 American Music Awards nominees.
“A lot of the times those are situations when people aren’t saying no to those girls and I definitely have a mom who would slap me upside the head if I went crazy or something.”
For now, Demi is looking forward to what lays ahead including working on her third album set to be released in the spring of 2011.
“I’m really excited about it,” she added. “I’m doing more of dance R&B mainstream music so I’m really excited.” She is also looking forward to “getting in on the creative side and creating TV shows and movies.”
Next up: the South American leg of her tour with the Jonas Brothers.
